PepsiCo Food Services (PFS)
PFS was the distribution arm of PepsiCo's restaurant holdings, and was responsible for supplying all food and dry goods to the Taco Bell, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut and California Pizza Kitchen restaurant locations. PFS was purchased first by AmeriServe™ Food Distribution, and was later acquired by McLane Foodservice Distribution. PFS operated approximately 60 Distribution Centers around the US that distributed goods to restaurant locations using a private fleet. The inbound transportation to the DCs was controlled by PFS Logistics’ central office in Addison, TX.
Freight Management System
Empower Decision Systems developed the Freight Manager System (FMS) for PFS Logistics. FMS allows analysts to plan and control all aspects of the inbound transportation function including: order entry or import, load consolidation, commercial carrier selection, load tendering, dispatching and tracking. FMS also allows users to maintain vendor, DC, carrier contact, and carrier rate information.
MTP Integration
PFS used the Manugistics Transportation Planning (MTP) system to communicate with commercial carriers. Empower developed middleware that integrated FMS with MTP in a completely automated fashion. This enhancement freed logistics analysts from having to communicate with commercial carriers via facsimile and telephone messages.
Route Analysis System
PFS used Manugistics' Trucks Vehicle Routing program to schedule deliveries from the DCs to the restaurant locations. Empower developed a back end reporting system for the DCs to analyze and reformat the routes produced by Trucks. The Route Analysis System calculated additional statistics for the route planners.
